SAVANNAH – Billie Sue Munden Sheahan died peacefully Wednesday, May 6, 2009 at Spanish Oaks.
Billie Sue Sheahan was born January 21, 1927 in Baton Rouge, LA to parents Laura Cartwright and William Pride Munden. She attended local schools in New Orleans, LA until her father's death in 1938 caused her and her mother to move back to her mother's home in Savannah, GA. Billie Sue Sheahan graduated with honors from Savannah High School in 1944 and attended Armstrong College and the University of Georgia. She completed her education with B.S. and M.S. degrees in Education, with honors, from Georgia Southern College.
She met her husband of 60 years, John Charles Sheahan, Jr. Jack, on a blind date in 1946. They were married in 1947 and were blessed with two sons. She began her teaching career at Hancock Day School. She then moved to Savannah Country Day where she taught in Lower School for 28 years.
Billie Sue Sheahan was a member of Quis Qui, Delta Delta Delta sorority at UGA, Delta Kappa Gamma, the Savannah Garden Club, the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Chancel Society of St. John's Church, the Penguin Dance Club, the Savannah Yacht Club, and a former member of the Savannah Golf Club. She was an avid gardener and bridge player, and enjoyed life with family and friends. She especially enjoyed hosting, with dear friends, an annual oyster roast at Coffee Bluff.
Surviving family members include: John Pride Sheahan and Linda Powell Sheahan; William Robert Sheahan and Trisha Snowden Sheahan; grandchildren, John Powell Sheahan and Adell Cephise Sheahan.
The family will receive friends on Friday from 5-7 pm at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, May 9, 2009, at St. John's Church.
Interment will follow in the Greenwich Section of Bonaventure Cemetery.

I am a former student of Mrs. Sheehan. She was especially welcoming to me as a new student at SCDS. I will always remember her kindness.
